If you are a foreign company or individual wanting to register an Australian domain name to do business in Australia, you can register a .com.au or .net.au with an ABN (Australian Business Number), ACN (Australian Company Number), ARBN, trademark number OR trademark application number.
Register an Australian Domain Name as a Foreign Company
If your business owns an Australian trademark, or has a pending Australian trademark application, you may be eligible to register an Australian domain name without an ABN or ACN.
This also applies if your trademark has been filed through the Madrid Protocol and Australia has been designated as a protected jurisdiction.
Using a Trademark to Register a Domain
If you have:
- An Australian registered trademark; or
- A pending Australian trademark application; or
- An international trademark application under the Madrid Protocol that includes Australia
you can use your trademark number or application number when registering your Australian domain name.
Once your trademark application has been submitted, simply:
- Register your domain name with us
- Select Pending Trademark Owner as your eligibility type.
- Enter your trademark application number.
- Email your trademark details to our team and we'll assist with the registration process.
Registering an Australian Domain Name with an ABRN
Foreign companies can also become eligible for Australian domain names by obtaining an Australian Registered Body Number (ABRN) through ASIC.
To register as a foreign company in Australia, you will generally need to:
- Appoint a local agent in Australia.
- Register your foreign company with ASIC
- Obtain an ABRN
Once your ABRN has been issued, you can register Australian domain names that meet the eligibility rules.
