DNS Management

DNS Management is a service that allows you to edit the zone file of your domain name, so that you can point your domain name to a static ip address, create CName records and MX records. Most users will not utilize DNS Management, and will simply delegate the authoritative name server to their hosting company by updating their NS records. and their hosting company will create the necessary zone files for their domain name to work.

DNS Management is not to be confused with domain forwarding, which involves redirecting a domain name to another URL. Most domain name registrars do not provide you with DNS Management or domain name forwarding. We give you the choice to use your domain name in any way you want.

Examples of DNS Management
  • redirecting your domain name to a static ip assigned your office or home computer. This allows you to host your website, intranet or database on your local computer
  • redirecting your domain name to a dedicated server located in a datacenter. This is a better alternative than using the same dedicated server as a name server and a web server because if you dedicated server fails, your name server will also fail to resolve. By having an external name server record that is on  a different server to your dedicated server, you can redirect your zone file records to an alternative server.
  • more control to create subdomains and create addtional MX records. Most web hosting providers do not give you advanced domain name management and therefore,  you are limited to the number of subdomains, Cname, MX and A records that you can create and edit.
  • Direct the mail associated with your domain name to a local office server, whilst still directing website traffic to the server hosted in your hosting company's datacenter
  • Creating Cname records for google applications
  • Creating Aname records and Cname records for Google's Adsense for Domains
  • Creating Txt file and MX records for Google Email App
  • Pointing www A name record to an ip address
  • Use Gsuites or Weebly services

If you are simply looking to redirect your domain name to a URL, then read domain name forwarding, advanced DNS features are more suited to businesses that require access to the edit the zone files of their domain name.

In order to use our DNS Management, you must delegate the name servers to

ns1.partnerconsole.net
ns2.partnerconsole.net
ns3.partnerconsole.net

Setting up DNS Hosting

Free DNS Hosting is available to all domain name registrations or transfers. Once your domain is registered or transferred, you are able to login and manage the zone files of your domain name by ordering a free product called Domain Manager.

Prior to ordering free DNS Hosting, you will need to do the following;

  1. Transfer an existing domain or register a new domain. There is no charge to transfer a domain name to us. If your domain, is a TLD domain name like .com, .net, etc, then an additional year of registration will be required on transfer. Standard renewal prices apply.
  2. After your registration or transfer has been completed, you can login to your master domain name administration and order domain forwarding. To do this next to your domain name, click 'Add Services', then 'Hosting', then SELECT next to Domain Manager (although it says it's one month/free -  this is ongoing until cancelled) and complete order.

You will receive an email when your domain name forwarding service has been set up (usually within an hour) but allow up to 24 hours or you can simply login to check that the service has been set up.

Once the service has been activated, you will then be able to edit your zone files.

Editing zone files

To edit your zone files, you will need to login, click on the link with the domain name you wish to edit. Then if you have ordered free domain manager, you will see the link icon "Zone Records". Click on this link and edit your zone files.

Brief Instructions

After clicking "Zone Records", the screen will appear that will show you your current zone file and you can then edit and delete and add more zone files.

Adding an A name record

To add an A name record, select "A Record" from the drop down menu. To enter a hostless A name, leave the first field blank and then enter in the ip address corresponding to that A name record. If you were creating a subdomain,  you would enter, the name of the subdomain in the "Name" field. A hostless A name record is necessary so that your domain name without the www will point to a destination.

Creating a Cname record

To create a Cname record, select on "CName Record" and fill in the hostname of the Cname record.

Adding a TXT file

Select "TXT Record" and then enter the record in the TXT field, leaving the Name field blank. If you are creating a text file for Google Apps, then you need to cut and paste this into the TXT field.

Adding an MX record

Enter the exchange record without the dot at the end and the preference number. If you enter the dot at the end of the exchange record you will get an error message. You may need to log back in, if you get this message and navigate back to the 'zone file' administration page.

Editing or deleting records

To edit or delete a record, click on the 'remove' or 'updatel' link corresponding to the zone file record.

Common uses for zone file editing

To set the www and hostless A record for a domain name to point to a dedicated ip address,

This zone file means that you set your domain name to work so that when someone types in your domain name into a browser, with or without a www, the domain resolves to an ip address. The ip address should be the dedicated ip address of your server.

There should be a www A record and corresponding ip address and a hostless A name record corresponding to the same ip address. An ip address is commonly known as the dedicated ip address of the server that is hosting the website.

Connect domain name to Weebly

If you have built your website using Weebly, and you want to connect your domain to it, you need to upgrade to one of their accounts that allows you to use a domain with your website and you need to order from us, free domain manager. This service is free with all domains registered or transferred to us.

Login to your domain name administration and order domain manager. To do this next to your domain name, click 'Add Services', then 'Hosting', then SELECT next to Domain Manager (although it says it's one month/free -  this is ongoing until cancelled) and complete order.

You will receive an email when the service has been set up (usually within an hour) but allow up to 24 hours.

Once the service has been activated, you will then be able to login configure your zone files.

To configure the Weebly zone files

Click on Zone Manager, then remove all A records currently there and create an A record.

In Name field, leave blank and the Host Field should be the ip address, 199.34.228.69  . Then create another A record, with the name Name field with www and the Host Fields should also be the ip address 199.34.228.69 .

These two zone records will connect your domain to your Weebly website.

Using Gsuites

If you want to use Google Apps for your email, you can actually sign up with Google directly via, https://gsuite.google.com/

You then need to create the corresponding zone file records.

Priority  Mail Server
1 ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
5 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
5 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
10 ALT3.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
10 ALT4.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.

Last Step: Change your Name Server Records

Changing your name server records

Before DNS Hosting will work, you will need to change your name server records.

Navigate to the Update Name Server Icon and change the name server records to the ones below.

ns1.partnerconsole.net
ns2.partnerconsole.net
ns3.partnerconsole.net

It will then take 24-48 hours to propogate these changes across the internet network but often much sooner.

We advise that if you want to see your domain name resolving to your website files sooner, do not be tempted to visit your domain name because your ISP will hold the old address in its cache. If you are concerned that you have not filled in the fields properly, log back in and navigate to these pages and check that all the information has been entered in correctly. Usually, if you return in a few hours and enter your domain name into the address bar of your browser, you will see the changes that you have made working. Alternatively you can check on the progress by going to www.intodns.com and entering your domain name.
